Professor Hong Wanjin’s Research Team Reveals Key Mechanisms for Breaking Through Lung Cancer Cell “Bodyguard” Defenses |

On January 23, 2026, a Singaporean research team revealed a key mechanism by which vegetables like broccoli can break through the “bodyguard” defenses of lung cancer cells.

A research team led by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) of Singapore spent five years studying lung cancer cells using gene screening methods and discovered that vegetables such as broccoli contain compounds that inhibit cancer cells.

The three researchers’ new findings confirm that certain lung cancer cells have a key mechanism by which “bodyguards” block anti-cancer drug resistance, and that common vegetables such as cabbage and broccoli can assist in the “bodyguard defenses” of cancer cells, helping cancer treatment drugs achieve their effects.

Congratulations to Professor Hong Wanjin’s research team on this achievement! Professor Hong Wanjin is also a Senior Honorary Advisor to the Asia-Pacific Association for Science and Technology.
