On July 16th, the 7th Asia-Pacific International Intelligent Equipment Expo 2026 grandly opened at the Qingdao International Convention and Exhibition Center (Hongdao Hall)! Simultaneously, the “2026 Semiconductor Industry Innovation and Development Cooperation and Exchange Conference” also commenced amidst enthusiastic applause.

Professor Lou Yunhe, Executive President of the Asia-Pacific Association for Science and Technology, was invited to attend the “2026 Semiconductor Industry Innovation and Development Cooperation and Exchange Conference” and delivered a speech. In her speech, Dr. Lou stated:

Today’s exchange conference, themed “Innovative Development of the Semiconductor Industry,” focuses on industry hotspots such as domestic substitution, chip technology innovation, artificial intelligence empowerment, standardization, and product reliability. These topics are not only important directions for the development of China’s semiconductor industry but also strategic issues of common concern to the global semiconductor industry.

Currently, we are at a critical juncture in the in-depth development of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation. The rapid rise of emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, large-scale models, intelligent robots, new energy vehicles, low-altitude economy, and intelligent manufacturing has created unprecedented demands for high-performance chips. It can be said that semiconductors are no longer merely the core foundation of the electronics industry but have become a crucial engine driving the development of the digital economy and intelligent society.

Meanwhile, the global semiconductor industry is undergoing profound changes. From advanced processes and packaging to third-generation semiconductors, new memory technologies, Chiplet architecture, and AI-driven EDA design and intelligent manufacturing, technological innovation is accelerating, and the industrial ecosystem is continuously being restructured.

This not only tests a country’s innovation capabilities but also requires the international community to strengthen exchanges in scientific research cooperation, talent cultivation, industrial collaboration, and standards development to jointly promote the healthy development of the industry.

Encouragingly, China’s semiconductor industry has achieved remarkable development results in recent years. More and more outstanding companies are breaking through key core technologies, forming a complete industrial system in areas such as integrated circuit design, manufacturing, packaging and testing, and equipment materials. Shandong, in particular, relying on its strong manufacturing base and continuously optimized innovation environment, is accelerating the cultivation of semiconductor and high-end equipment manufacturing industrial clusters, injecting new impetus into the high-quality development of the regional economy.

As an international organization that has long focused on Asia-Pacific science and technology innovation cooperation, we believe that the future development of the semiconductor industry will increasingly reflect three key words:

First, innovation. Innovation has always been the primary driving force for industrial development. Only by adhering to original technological breakthroughs and strengthening the deep integration of basic and applied research can we continuously enhance the core competitiveness of the industry.

Second, collaboration. The semiconductor industry chain is long and technologically demanding, meaning no single company can independently achieve all innovations. A closer collaborative innovation mechanism needs to be established among upstream and downstream players in the industry chain, universities, research institutions, and government departments to achieve resource sharing, complementary advantages, and jointly build an open, efficient, and sustainable industrial ecosystem.

Thirdly, open cooperation is crucial. Technological development knows no borders. Faced with global technological challenges and market demands, strengthening international cooperation is more important than ever. Openness not only means resource sharing but also the exchange of ideas, the flow of talent, mutual recognition of standards, and the joint construction of an innovation ecosystem.
