On the afternoon of February 8, 2026, the ceremony for Professor Xiaowei Sun, Executive Dean of the Institute of Nanoscience and Applications and Chair Professor of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), to be elected a Foreign Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences was held in Conference Room 101 of the Administration Building.
Alexander Sigov, Rector of the Russian Technical University and Head of the Department of Nanotechnology and Information at the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Olga Nazarova, Assistant to the Rector, visited SUSTech to present the certificate. Zhang Ling, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of SUSTech, attended the ceremony.
2026年2月8日下午，南方科技大学纳米科学与应用研究院执行院长、电子与电气工程系讲席教授孙小卫获授俄罗斯科学院外籍院士仪式在办公楼101会议室举行。俄罗斯技术大学校长、俄罗斯科学院纳米技术和信息系主任Alexander Sigov，校长助理Olga Nazarova专程到访授证，南方科技大学党委副书记张凌出席仪式。
Alexander Sigov highly praised SUSTech’s rapid and high-quality development. He stated that the Russian Academy of Sciences is a world-leading research institution, and Professor Sun’s election is a high recognition by the international academic community of his original contributions in the fields of nanoscience, optoelectronics, and information devices. It also demonstrates the continuous improvement of SUSTech’s research level and international academic influence. He expressed his hope that both sides could further expand cooperation, learn from each other, deepen strategic cooperation in scientific and technological innovation and talent cultivation, and jointly achieve high-quality development.

Zhang Ling, on behalf of the university, congratulated Professor Sun on his election as a Foreign Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He stated that SUSTech adheres to an internationalized educational philosophy, encourages original research and interdisciplinary studies, and has nurtured a group of internationally influential scholars, including Professor Sun. We hope that this awarding ceremony will serve as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation with the Russian Academy of Sciences and related institutions, working together in basic research and joint talent training to enhance internationalization and contribute wisdom and strength to the development of human science.

Following this, Alexander Sigov presented Sun Xiaowei with the certificate of foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The university presented commemorative medals to the Russian guests.
随后，Alexander Sigov为孙小卫颁发俄罗斯科学院外籍院士证书。学校向俄方嘉宾赠送纪念奖牌。
In his speech, Academician Sun Xiaowei expressed his gratitude for the recognition from the Russian Academy of Sciences, the training from the university, and the support from all parties. He stated that this honor is an important milestone in his academic career and, more importantly, a responsibility.
In the future, he will continue to delve into the forefront of nano-optoelectronics and display technology, while also playing a bridging role to promote in-depth cooperation between SUSTech and Russian research institutions, contributing to Sino-Russian scientific and educational exchanges and the innovative development of the global nanoscience field.
